Acrylic and 925 silver

This work takes a look at the challenges of communication in complex relationships by assembling together 3 famous characters from popular science-fiction. First is the Ood from Dr Who, who speaks via an orb in his hand. Second is the Pale-Man from Pan’s labyrinth whose eyes are imbedded in his palms and 3rd is Zoiberg from Futurama who has no ears. So how does he hear?

For a dialogue to be devoid of active listening and over whelmed by a strong compulsion to defend is indeed, a very dangerous situation. Emotions run high. A simple conversation between siblings or even old friends can quickly deteriorate in to failed diplomacy of monumental proportions, like as in Star Wars.

Zoiberg, Ood and the Pale-man have been grouped as a triptych, or locked, as if, in a 3 way conversation with some pre-programmed challenges to ask these fundamental questions:

1. What is effective communications?

2. How can we be sure that the message sent and message received are the same?

3. What values are we hoping to gain from this interaction any way?
