Somboun Phonesouk bio

Born in Savannakhet

 

Somboun worked as an painter and visual artist before embarking on the Advance Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design at the Design centre Enmore. He'd recently completed this course in December 2013.

 

He was awarded the Hiko Mizuno scholarship in 2012 to study Jewellery Design in japan through the Sydney Institute International Exchange Program.

 

During that period, his jewellery was represented in 2 exhibitions in Tokyo, "InStall" (Oct, 2012) and “Henka” (Dec 2012) at Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry Design.

 

Locally:

He has shown works in“Benchmark”, “Mine”  and "Acanum", 3 jewellery exhibitions curated by Design Centre Enmore: between 2011-13. The first 2 were held at Dank St Depot, Waterloo and the 3rd at The Paramount Building in Surry Hills.

 

Since his graduation from Enmore, he has exhibitied with Airspace project in "Danger Will Robinson"July 2014 and "Over the head" Aug. 2014 at Stanley Street gallery, East Sydeny

 

He won the chroma Art prize for painting 1998 and since 1999 has exhibited with the “Friend in hand” annual group shows in Petersham. He had his first solo painting exhibition at the Taxi Club in November 2007.

 

His work, "BloB rings 25x" will be on display at the Powerhouse Museum as part of a major Jewellery Exhibition, "A fine Possession, Jewellery and Identity", due to open on 23rd September 2014.
